Biomechanical Foundations and Risk Factors for Throwing Injuries in Baseball
Keywords:

Introduction: The analysis of the biomechanical foundations of the throwing motion in baseball, the risk factors associated with the cause of the motion, and the specific characteristics of the young pitcher allows for performance optimization in clinical-sports practice and a reduction in injury risk.
Objective: To analyze the biomechanics of young baseball players’ throwing from a clinical-sports practice perspective for injury prevention.
Methods: A documentary review was conducted of articles related to biomechanical analyses of the throwing motion in baseball. Based on a comprehensive search of scientific databases such as PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus, 19 articles (2010-2025) focusing on biomechanics, sports injuries, and throwing technique in baseball were selected.
Analysis and synthesis of information: The research focuses on the six phases of the throw: wind-up, stride, arm cocking, acceleration, deceleration, and follow-through, and on the need for progressive training to avoid overuse injuries, prioritizing technical quality above all. Biomechanically correct technique and neuromuscular synaptic function are essential for achieving optimal performance and reducing injury risk.
Conclusions: It is important to carry out a comprehensive analysis that considers breathing and postural alignment in order to implement an effective preventive and educational approach.
