Introduction: Chronic osteomyelitis in pediatric patients with sickle cell disease represents a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge, especially when caused by resistant microorganisms such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus.
Objective: To describe the diagnosis, therapeutic management, and clinical course of a case of chronic osteomyelitis of the humeral head in a patient with sickle cell disease.
Case report: An eight-year-old girl with sickle cell disease developed chronic osteomyelitis of the left humeral head. The diagnosis was based on clinical, imaging, and microbiological findings. Management included prolonged antibiotic therapy and surgical debridement, with a favorable outcome.
Conclusions: This case highlights the importance of considering resistant pathogens in immunocompromised patients and the need for a multidisciplinary approach.
Keywords: chronic osteomyelitis; methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus; sickle cell disease.
