Abstract

Introduction: Radius ulnar synostosis is a congenital malformation that is not very frequent. It is often bilateral, hereditary, and causes difficulty in prone-supination of the forearm. It is diagnosed by clinical evaluation and elbow radiography.

Objective: To report a case of a 16-year-old male adolescent diagnosed with congenital proximal radius ulnar synostosis.

Case report: We report the case of a patient with diagnosis of congenital proximal radioulnar synostosis, who was treated at Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Hospital in Bayamo in 2018. The presence of associated orthopedic congenital malformations was assessed and the ranges and arches of the elbow movement were determined and registered. Our patient had this pathology with acceptable mobility to pronosupination and flexion and extension of the elbow. He was treated conservatively.

Conclusions: Radius ulnar synostosis is a demanding pathology in terms of management in which conservative treatment is generally preferred over surgical treatment. This patient had acceptable mobility to pronosupination and flexion and extension of the elbow, consequently he was treated conservatively.
