Introduction: Chondroblastoma is a rare bone neoplasm, which represents a minimum percentage of all primary skeletal tumors.
Objective: To report a case of a patient who was diagnosed with an aggressive chondroblastoma of the proximal third of the humerus and the therapeutic approach applied.
Case report: We report the case of a 7-year-old male patient, black skin color, who after a trauma to the right shoulder had pain and increased volume of the area, later developed marked functional limitation, which made it difficult to carry out routine activities. Radiological studies showed an osteolytic image of the proximal third of the humerus, compatible with an aggressive chondroblastoma. The first biopsy performed showed a giant cell tumor of bone, it was not conclusive due to the scarcity of the sample. The second incisional biopsy allowed diagnosing an aggressive chondroblastoma. Resection of the entire proximal third of the right humerus was performed and the histological examination confirmed the diagnosis of aggressive chondroblastoma.
Conclusions: Aggressive chondroblastoma is a bone tumor with both clinical and radiological qualities very similar to other neoplasms, in many cases with malignant characteristics, consequently it is essential to diagnose accurately as to be able to apply the appropriate therapy in each patient, guaranteeing adequate quality of life.
