Abstract

Introduction: Femoroacetabular impingement is an important cause of pain and early osteoarthritis of the hip, especially in young patients. The treatment of this condition is usually surgical, both through the open or arthroscopic approach.
Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of arthroscopic management of femoroacetabular impingement.
Methods: An observational, descriptive, longitudinal, prospective study was carried out on 41 patients at Frank País International Orthopedic Scientific Hospital from June 1, 2016 to June 30, 2018 for presenting femoroacetabular impingement syndrome, treated by arthroscopy.
Results: The mixed-type femoroacetabular impingement syndrome was the one that reported the largest number of cases, the right hip was the most affected. More than half of the study sample were older than 50 years and the female sex was slightly higher. The best results were obtained in patients under 50 years of age. The most frequent complication was superficial infection, which occurred in two cases.
Conclusions: Arthroscopic examination is vital to detect and treat this condition. Treatment is determined by different factors such as age, degree of hip involvement, associated injuries, activity of the patient and type of injury.
