Minimally invasive osteosynthesis with AO plate in tibia fracture
Keywords:
minimally invasive surgery, tibia fractures, MIPOAbstract
Introduction: The osteomyoarticular system frequently suffers traumatic injuries. The tibia is more susceptible to fractures due to the anatomical characteristics.
Objective: To describe minimally invasive osteosynthesis for the treatment of tibia fracture.
Methods: A prospective longitudinal study was carried out in a random sample of cases with surgical treatment of AO plate for minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis. Theoretical and empirical methods were used to analyze what concerns the tibia fracture.
Results: The majority of patients treated with minimally invasive osteosynthesis were male (72.5%). Their age ranged between 30 and 50. The 42A injury predominated according to AO/OTA classification. The surgical time for osteosynthesis was minimal and there were few complications.
Conclusions: MIPO constitutes an option for the treatment of tibia fractures, which does not require special instrumentation. In addition, it has fewer risks of complications because it preserves vascularization and fracture hematoma.
