Newborn with congenital knee dislocation in Villa Clara
Keywords:
newborn, knee, congenital dislocation.Abstract
Introduction: Congenital knee dislocation is a rare condition, with an incidence rate of 1 per 100,000 live births. It is diagnosed through physical examination; however, the simple x-ray specifies the level of severity.
Objective: To demonstrate the effectiveness of conservative treatment in a case of congenital knee dislocation.
Case report: The case of a female newborn, product of eutocic birth with a normal Apgar score at birth, is reported. The first physical examination showed the right lower limb recurvatum at the end of the tibia on the femur. Pediatric orthopedics was consulted and, based on a simple x-ray, a type III congenital knee dislocation was diagnosed, according to the classification of Laurence and Curtis Fisher. The limb was immobilized with a cruropedic cast and a flexion of less than 90° was obtained.
Conclusions: Early conservative treatment allowed the patient to leave the Neonatology Service without complications.
