Abstract

Introduction: Hip fracture incapacitates the coxofemoral joints and other joints of the lower limbs. It frequently occurs in older adults and usually requires surgical and rehabilitative treatment. Pain, inflammation, limitation of joint movements, muscle atrophy, shortening of the limb and external rotation of the lower limb are the most common symptoms.

Objective: To assess the effectiveness of physical therapy used in patients with hip fracture.

Methods: Publications in Pumed, SciELO, Ecured, Google Scholar, Infomed and other databases that provided reliable information for the development of the study were consulted. The historical-logical, inductive-deductive and analytical methods were applied. The review was carried out from March 23 to April 10, 2023 at the Havana Psychiatric Hospital.

Results: In patients with hip fracture, physical therapy improves joint movements, increases muscle strength, decreases joint stiffness, corrects posture, and allows maintaining stability and balance.

Conclusions: It was found that rehabilitation improves the quality of life of patients with hip fracture.
